For exterior railing we have found that most

failures arise from "wood rot" starting at the

bottom of the spindle at the point of attachment

when "toenailed". Our favorite choice for exterior

rail is one made out of pressure treated pine which

has 4 pieces, 2 tops and 2 bottoms. This allows

or securing the spindles through the handrail,

into the top and bottom of the spindle so as to

avoid "toenailing". Normally a local mill shop

can handle your hand railing needs. If you have

a particular design requirement; please send a

tracing or example for a quote.
