Hand Turned Reproduction Spindles

Spinderella Machine Turned NeoClassic Spindles

Reproduction spindle in lathe with original for comparison

Detail of octagonal neo-classic spindle.  This is a rare Victorian design.

A spindle (baluster) is typically part of a handrail system,
normally 24" to 40" in length and 1 1/4" to 6" in diameter.
Whenever possible, the spindle blanks are fashioned from
solid stock up to 3 3/4" square. Anything larger requires
lamination. Virtually any wood species is available.
Please remember, when it comes to staircases, there are
several lengths involved due to the slope of the handrail.
The front of the step spindle will be much shorter than the
back of the step spindle, and the landing spindles are often
a different length, too!! Spiral staircases can have many
many different lengths. We have reproduced tens of thousands
of hand-turned spindles in our 20 years. There is no limit to
the designs of spindles, so it is best to send us an example
of what you need replaced.

In our shop we offer only one item which is not hand-turned.
This is an exterior 2 3/4" X 29 1/2"  spindle in Spanish Cedar.
This item is turned on a rotating head turning machine
affectionately known as 'Spinderella'. For new construction,
there is no better design or value!
